Introducing our new Director, Jodele Hammock!

Greetings!

My name is Jodele Hammock and I’m excited to join Police Activities League of Massena as the Director.

I’m a Massena resident, and have been for most of my life. I’ve worked in the Human Services sector for over 18 years. My journey began working with children and families as a teacher’s aide; then, as an Administrator at a learning center in Virginia.

When I relocated back “home” to Massena, I continued my service of working with families and children at the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe in the field of Education and Social Services. My experience also includes working in the school district as a substitute and as a School Counselor Assistant. I’m active in the community, serving on multiple boards including the Massena Central School Board of Education, Massena’s Town Board of Assessment, and the Massena Minor Hockey Association.

I’m grateful that my work and civic experiences have provided me with the ideal background to serve the community as the Director of PAL.

I am a two-time graduate from SUNY Potsdam, obtaining my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership. But, it’s the people around me that influence my drive and define my leadership abilities even more than my education.

I love working with the community, surrounded by like minds, and am excited to provide positive opportunities to our PAL members and the community we serve with our exceptional PAL staff and supportive Board of Directors.

As I step into the Director role for this important community resource, my focus will be on continuing to deliver positive programming and a safe place where our kids can thrive and be who they want to be. I’m excited to deepen our partnership with our local law enforcement agencies, and look forward to our continued collaboration with Massena Central School to ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive.

Staff worked diligently to get ready for a full house and nothing compares to the excitement we felt when we welcomed back our members on October 4th. Now, as we continue to serve the kids of our community, I welcome your feedback and ideas. Please reach out to me by calling 315-705-6075 or by emailing me at Director@massenapal.com.

Our doors are open for your needs and the kids of our community.

Here’s to a successful year!

Boys & Girls Club of Massena Announces exciting new Affiliation

Thank you for allowing us to provide positive programs, professional staff and an outstanding place for boys & girls at our Club this school year and for more than 300 kids over the last five years!

Our organization has been undergoing some exciting changes that will allow us to better serve the kids of our community.

We are excited to announce a new partnership with the Police Athletic / Activities League, or PAL for short. The mission, vision and values of the programming that will be made available to our community through this new affiliation will offer even greater opportunities to the kids we serve and the community as a whole.

It’s important for you to know that very little will change. It’ll be the same caring professionals, same hours of operation, same membership structure and rates. Much of the programming will stay the same, supplemented by additional, improved content and a new partnership with the Massena Police Department.

We do also want to explain why we are not continuing to pursue a formal charter with the Boys & Girls Club of America. After six years and a tremendous amount of effort and local support, we were advised the Boys & Girls Club of America has changed how they choose to charter new clubs. They now require becoming an affiliate of an existing club. Unfortunately, our attempts to secure such an affiliation under the Boys & Girls Clubs in Akwesasne or Ogdensburg were unsuccessful.

So, on to bigger and better opportunities!

  • What will change? The answer is: not much! In place of BGCM, you’ll see our fresh, new name: Police Activities League of Massena, Inc. (Massena PAL)
  • You’ll see our new name and brand at our Clubhouse and online.
  • New Resources, Programs, Training and Tools for the staff working with your kids
  • Additional partnerships and programs with our local PD, building positive relationships

Our directors and community are incredibly proud of what this program has been able to accomplish and the impact it has had on Massena youth since our origination in 2013. We look forward to continuing to work hard every day, under a new organization to grow and improve our program to better serve our kids.

We welcome your questions and will gladly share details on the great work we continue to do.

We did it!

Monday, September 18, 2017.

What a great day. The sun was shining, the temperatures were more summer-like than fall and we swung the doors open to our 30 Bayley Road Clubhouse to kids ages 5 to 18 for the very first time.

Thanks to our steering committee members who got things rolling. Thanks to the charter board members who worked tirelessly and wore so many hats — from events, to publicity, to governance, to finance, to staffing and beyond. Thanks to the volunteers who helped us clean, paint and prep our new Club.

Thanks to so many, for giving so much, to support this incredibly important effort. Together, we made the Boys & Girls Club of Massena a reality. Together, we have made it possible for thousands of kids for decades to come to achieve GREAT FUTURES.

Here, BGCM Board Members, staff, volunteers and community supporters gather for the official ribbon cutting to mark this tremendous achievement for the kids of the community.
